Our people


Rev Simon Roberton: After 30 years as a professional photographer, Simon felt called to full-time ministry and also training at Spurgeon’s College, graduating in 2012. Later that year, he was called to serve at Christ Church, with special responsibility for pastoral care.

He is married to Julia and they have three grown up daughters and two granddaughters.

He enjoys walking, cycling, clay pigeon shooting and music and will often be found near a barbeque – whatever the weather!

Elders and deacons

The Church Meeting elects both elders and deacons who serve for three-yearly terms, and with the ministers, they comprise the church’s leadership team. The current elders and deacons are:


Nigel Davey is also in his second term as an elder and is additionally the Church Treasurer. He and his wife, Ruth, moved to Stock in 2008, both having served in many capacities in their 35 years’ prior membership of Brentwood Baptist Church. Nigel is a retired chartered accountant, and leads one of the church’s homegroups.

Jane Wyndham: Jane is beginning her first term as an elder. She leads the Tuesday morning homegroup and is currently studying theology, part-time, at Spurgeon’s College. Jane works as a hairdresser, with her husband, Johnpaul, and has two children, Ruby and Johnny.


Penny Champion is serving her first term as a deacon and is also the Church Secretary. Penny is married to Stephen and they have two daughters. Penny works as a midwife and co-leads Pandas.

Anne Ward has, with her husband, John, been a member of the church for 26 years. Before having their family, she was a primary-school teacher, and all of their four children grew up within the church youth programmes. Two of them are now serving the Lord full time overseas. Anne serves the church in Pandas and in the Sunday School, she is also on the rota to play the keyboard with the worship group and is currently a member of the Stock Unity Committee.
